Week 4 Recap

I’m supposed to write something here? A recap, you say? Got it.

Sunday saw GlaD’s first “loss” (technically a split where we lost by differential), to iCu on Turnpike CTF. We started off on a high note, what with this match being the debut of Klarity’s GlaD tag. Unfortunately we spent the majority of map 1 spinning our wheels, unable to find much traction; every flag we brought home was either tying the score or quickly followed by a cap from iCu. The score was 5-7 for iCu going into the dying minutes of the first map, when we pulled off a spectacular clutch train, making 3 caps in under 2 minutes, dragging ourselves from the jaws of defeat. Bolstered by this turn of fortunes, we were up 4-2 on map 2 when everything just went to shit. Our defense crumbled, hits disappeared, and iCu made 6 more caps, to our lone additional capture. Turnpike demands a high level of CTF skill, and we just did not play a good game on Sunday.

Tuesday Wednesday Thursday was another split/loss by differential. I’m hating this emerging pattern! We were matched up against the French division of Exile (codename: Napoleon), who have since changed their names to the utterly retarded “mollywhop.” ||| was good, this is just stupid. Anyway, moving on… Map 1 was a complete clusterfuck since half of us had never played Thingley in any gametype for longer than it takes to mash ~, q, and tab; nevermind Thingley in TS in a competitive environment against a team that has the word “scrim” in their dictionary (next to terrible clan names; oh sorry I said I’d moved on). We had two new players and no plan of attack. I firmly believe we are better than 6-20, and we showed it map 2 with a 15-9 victory. If we ever get our hands our hands on the admin who thought Thingley should be in the map list, we’ll probably give him a GlaD tag and call him Solitary.

Speaking of giving out GlaD tags, we at GetLegitandDip.com would like to formally welcome our new recruits Claw, Codee, Corvette, and Miley (GodHatesFigs). Now we can finally field a full 6 man lineup composed entirely of names starting with a hard /c/. Corvette and Miley both played their debut game against |||, while late-to-the-party Claw subbed.

Tomorrow we are scheduled to play Veneration on Riyadh CTF, and Tuesday we face SyH on Austria.

Week 3 Recap

Better late than never, right? It’s almost week 4 and I haven’t even posted week 3′s recap, which is utterly unacceptable and I am firing myself effective immediately. Fuck yeah, now I don’t have to do the recap! On the other hand, if I don’t do the writeup, I can’t use my awesome joke I’ve been working on for the past week. Decisions, decisions…

While I’m deciding what to do, I’ll update you on happenings in GlaD over the past week. First off, we played a dreadfully boring match against |NN| on Subway. I see why Subway’s a good map – it’s big, it’s more symmetrical than most maps, and it requires teamwork to get caps. That doesn’t stop it being a piece of shit with one texture and too many boxes to camp behind. Nobody ever agrees with my opinions of maps so we’ll probably see a maplist next season comprised solely of Subway, Austria, and Tohunga. On a mostly unrelated note, I was checking my Megaupload account to see if I have enough points to buy premium (I don’t), and happened across this:
http://i38.tinypic.com/2djwb2u.jpg
Do you see it? The demo from GlaD vs XeV has way more downloads (hey, when everything else has like 1 or 2, 6 is way more) than every other demo I have on MU. Why? It was on Subway. What’s that, you’re stealing strats (like I’ve said for years, we don’t have any) and you think I wouldn’t notice? Rich!

Ok, what else? Oh yeah, iCu on Orbital. I’ll admit I wasn’t confident about a win going into Tuesday night. iCu has been hyping their Euro lineup and a bunch of newbs predicted GlaD to lose. Fortunately nothing came of this, and despite iCu putting up a strong showing with almost their full starting lineup (missing Joram), and us missing a 5th starter, we pulled out a win. Obviously anything I say will reek of bias, but I think the map choice played in iCu’s favor. Orbital is heavily played in the Euro leagues, and iCu reportedly scrimmed “all week” in preparation for the match. We, meanwhile, had a rushed pregame location primer.

This Sunday’s CTF match, however, won’t be such an amateur affair. Both teams (in case you are under the proverbial rock, we play iCu again) know Turnpike up and down and backwards and all that shit. Of course people say we’re not a CTF team, and if we can’t get 6 starters, it’s not going to be a cake walk to say the least, but I think we should put on a good game simply because TP is such an overplayed map we can worry less about positions and strats, and more about playing some good CTF. I, personally, look forward to raping some Euros. >:))

Why was this recap delayed? I decided to move to a new host. I was previously using some free webhost which was down literally 40% of the time I wanted to access it, and otherwise was painfully slow to work with. Now getlegitanddip.com’s back on paid hosting, which is honestly the only way to go. It took a while to resolve DNS issues (Cpanel is seriously shitty for domain stuff), but all’s good now and hopefully no more moves are lurking in the near future.

So have I come to a decision? Stay tuned for next week’s recap to see.:) As for the joke, that’s on you because there isn’t one. lololol. Or does that intentional trickery count? metafail:<

Oh yeah check out Solitary’s new feature, M3MPHIS Tracker, where he chronicles the wacky antics of our resident Euro.

Week 2 Recap

I told Solitary to do some articles for this site, but I guess he’s too good for this little blog.:( Looks like it’s another Weekly Recap by don! The big news is that we played DT to a draw last night, which I have to tell you, I was not expecting. It turns out DT’s victory over Veneration was not a fluke. There are many reasons we lost a map (DT’s ungodly lag, bad lineup map 1, my wrist was fucked up – Flaw already made that joke after about 2 seconds, we played bad map 1, etc.), but all anyone will remember is that we lost a map in TS to someone besides Exile, and really, being a good team is about overcoming and adapting, which we unfortunately couldn’t quite manage map 1. We won map 2 convincingly, which I think says a lot for what our core lineup is capable of. DT was on a roll, but we managed to rally back and win. DT is undoubtedly a strong force this season, and if they keep of this level of play, I expect to see them in the semi finals or even finals.

Last Sunday we played /eVo/ in CTF, which was really a match which was decided before it was played. I have no disrespect for /eVo/ and I wish them luck in the rest of the season. The win over /eVo/ has put as in 3rd place, behind Ven and VeX because we haven’t tried so hard to get insane differentials.:P If the matchup formula hasn’t randomly changed again, we should face |NN| on Subway – a nice, nostalgic match with an old school team on an old school piece of shit map with 1 texture. No, I don’t like Subway. Bring back Crenshaw!

For all you Snap/Ace haters, they’re now gone from the clan. Ace, if you’re reading this, you’re not in GlaD anymore. As for TehSnap, he has potential and I encourage any mid tier teams looking for a solid player to pick him up.

Week 1 Recap

So the first week of FTW’s third season wrapped up last night, with GlaD 1-0 in both gametypes. Unexpected, yeah? I’ll tell you what’s really unexpected: Veneration vs DT. There’s no doubt this will be a contender for upset of the season. Other than that, it was a rather uneventful week of matches, with a lot of blowouts caused by using a one week preseason for seeding. Pro tip: seed randomly, or use a longer preseason.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock with no Internet, you’ve seen our new recruits by now. We’ve made some changes to the roster from last season. Obviously gone are Ziggy and Flaw, who’ve joined iCu. Memphis is back and in true Euro form, hasn’t shown up for any match. New additions include Ace, Klarity (past clans: War Horses, hype, xil), Maynard (past clans: {GB}, hype, xor, nGw) and TehSnap (ex-Blackjack/:21). Welcome (back) to the clan!

CTF schedules for Week 2 are up, and we’re playing /eVo/ on Algiers.  TS schedules aren’t up, but we’ll probably face Syh, DT, or iCu.

FTW Season 3

So if you were one of the 2 people who tried to visit this here website on July 25, you’re probably wondering why the site was down. Similarly, if you were one of the 7 people who visited this website in the past – oh, I don’t know, 6 months – you’re probably wondering why everything looks slightly different. The answer? New host. That means all the old content is gone because I didn’t back up anything from this stupid blog site. That’s actually a lie; I didn’t do the back up properly. Oh that’s a lie, too, btw – WordPress fucking changed how it handles importing backups between 2.whatever was on the old site, and 3.0, which is the new version. It’s a real shame since I had so much awesome content didn’t I?

What’s this got to do with season 3? Jack shit; it’s just a cheap way to give this post the illusion of content. Season 3 started yesterday, or rather, CTF preseason started. As usual, the after-match forum posts were more entertaining than the match itself. What happened? ALPHA shut out a new team called QK…91-0. Yes, ALPHA. Either VeX has taken their aliasing to a whole new level and aliased as ALPHA (ps get fresh ideas kthx), or I hope we somehow manage to face QK on Algiers. DT vs eLc was probably the highlight of the night – apparently eLc kicked DT from their server 8 minutes into the match for “hacking.” Newbies are funny:D

We played against the old school Mexican Brazilian team !Tc. It was a dull match to be honest. !Tc. doesn’t seem to know how to play CTF, and spent a lot of the match camping their flag heavily, making 6 caps across 2 maps (Turnpike and Sanctuary, in place of the scheduled, but not mandatory, Tohunga). They may have made the TS Invite division, but that doesn’t seem to mean dick in CTF. I hope they can turn around their luck and game plan, and manage to make some wins in the coming weeks, because they’re one of the few old school teams left (and one of the even fewer old school teams I respect).

In other South American clan news, iCu and SyH faced off on Sanc (notice a pattern? only idiots played Tohunga:D), and I think it was a win for SyH? I forget. Or did iCu win? I forget. Whatever, it was a close match and actually looked interesting. Good to see former GlaD/[51]/nGw members Ziggy and Flaw doing well in other teams.:) VeX and NN was another close match, but only because VeX had a devious ploy to lull NN into a sense of accomplishment by allowing map 1 to “slip away” to NN. The purpose of this will surely be made clear to us later in the season.

Anything else interesting? I guess 1up somehow managing to tie iV clan in map 1 could be considered interesting… if it did not highlight how fucking broken this game is. THC defied expectations and got trounced by pRo. Wait, was THC actually expected to do good in CTF by anyone besides THC?

Is this a full post yet? To be sure, I’ll talk about the TS preseason matches scheduled for Tuesday. We play Veneration. SyH plays iCu again. I think the map is Sanc, which is one of my new favorite maps. So who’s going to be playing for Ven? My money is on Cam, Corvette, Window, and I don’t really know who else starts for Ven, so I’d better pay attention on Tuesday!

gl hf everyone:)
